On behalf of Hillside UMC and The Way | Woodstock, welcome to a Maundy Thursday experience in the heart of Woodstock. Maundy Thursday, or “Holy Thursday” is the first of three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the death of Jesus upon a cross. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” On Jesus’ last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them. (John’s Gospel chapter 13 documents this for us). What an amazing expression of humility and putting the needs of others before oneself!
Journey with us back in time and across our town as we reflect on the events leading up to Jesus’ betrayal and arrest. You will enjoy music and be able to reflect on the journey Jesus took toward the cross for you, for us, and for all of humanity. Together, we will be challenged on what it means to serve and to love as Christ does as we engage with community and our city.
This is a self-guided journey with 6 stops through our city. Journey alone, with family, or a group. Reflective thoughts and map with station locations are accessible online, simply click a pic of the QR codes, or ask one of our hosts for a printout to journey along with us. The journey ends on The Way campus by a campfire and the invitation to receive communion. If you have any questions along the way, look for one of your hosts in black “Called to Serve” shirts.
JOURNEY TO NEXT STATION: Take the crosswalk across Towne Lake Parkway, turn right and head west toward Main Street. Make a left at Mainstreet and follow the music half a block to City Center for Station 2.
